ZX2R (1993 zxr250c) rebuild

Post by malysiak »

hey guys i have just rebuilt my zx2r engine after hearing the cam chain rattle (it was worn out), and i thought it would be a good idea to get the engine back in shape. anyway i put everything back together, the manual i used wasnt amazing, but i got almost everything back in properly (biggest mistake was the gears and shifter forks cos woops). anyway got it going again and noticed there was still a rattly from the engine at like 3 - 4000 rpm and im pretty sure its the cam chain. would anybody be able to tell me how to put the cam chain back on properly (it was a new chain, tensioner and rails), i had the cams off, put the chain around them, tightened them down and made sure there were 29 links between the IN and EX marks. maybe i put the tensioner is wrong or put the chain on incorrectly, but any help would be greatly appreciated

may just be a case of giving it another adjustment after its been run in a little or is it a automatic adjuster

The chain tensioner is automatically adjusted in the ZX2. Just double checking, did you pull apart the tensioner and give it a really good clean? I pulled mine apart recently and it was disgusting the amount of crap that was stuck in there.

By the way, where did you get your timing chain from? I'm finding it hard to track down a part number, let alone anyone that stocks it for the Zx2!! The balius apparently uses the same engine, but that doesn't help when asking the stores lol.
