Results... 2 deg. ignition advancer - ZXR750! HARAY!! :D

Post by JamesLaugesen »

Thanks to the Aussie Ninja (thanks mate) I have a new Factory 2 degree ignition advancer rotor (found out the correct term ;)) for my "worked" ZXR 750.

To my delight the existing rotor was standard, so the advancer wasn't an instant waste of money.

It arrived by post at work today (thanks mate :)) so as soon as I got home I jumped off the bike and started unscrewing things.

Within 10-or-so minutes I had the rotor changed and blipped out the driveway for a play.
Throttle response is smoother and the bike doesn't "jump" or "stutter" as much at low speeds, slightly more noticable power in high revs as revealed by my "frontwheelometer".

I also discovered that even my ignition coil picker cover is magnesium and the alan bolt securing the ignition rotor is titanium. What a cool previous owner(s) my bike has had... well, apart from all the dings, race-marks and home-made H-frame... built for speed, ooo yeea.

Anyhoo, very very easy thing to do if anyone is considering it.
Wont promise improvements though as they are quiet subtle... but I imagine with a new dyno run and tune it'll emphasise the advancement a bit more.

Hey James, glad to be of service. You actually saved me heaps of hassle by avoiding sending this one back to California for exchange, and now I know that they make a difference.

Woohoo.
When I gave the bike a good floggin' for the first time (since the advancer) I thought I'd lost a few ponies. Then I realised it was just running smoother and I was still traveling far too fast, hahaha.

Um, actually the mag ignition cover is an OEM part, nothing special I'm afriad. But, if you sandblast the outside, and then carefully fill parts of the inside with acid you can reduce the weight slightly and get a differnt look.

Cheers,
Brian

Do not walk alongside me, for the path may be narrow
