Re: the mammoth
That is certainly "in original condition" .....
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..

Re: the mammoth
Seen blokes restore worst but I guess it depends on how fat your wallet is ?Oh ! Don't forget the other half if you have one, they can be a bit of a anchor at times.
Might pay to try and find another and use that one for parts to help the other.

Re: the mammoth
nah its the 750 with the pie floater suspension. Ill post up a list of bits as i look at it in the cold light of day tommorrow. definitely a better front end with 17" rim and brakes that stop. I had the 1100 ESD model back in the late 80s and it could pull out tree stumps. It was very comfy on a long ride but a barge in the twisties. Some theiving scum stole it in port macquarie and then dropped it in the creek near wauchope. I hope he is still limping today. Funny how you mention the head shake as it caught me off guard one day after work and ......... those pants were never worn again.kawadave wrote:Good score for niks Davo...

Re: the mammoth
nice pick-up mate......any bike for $0 is a good pick-up......
anyone else remember the 60 Minutes story they did back in the 80's on the GSX1100EFE bikes ?? Head-shakes so bad that people were starting to line up and sue Suzuki. It was a massive story at the time. Those EFE's were pig-ugly barges that handled so poorly, they would get tank-slappers in a straight line at 60kmh. There were a number of fatalities attributed to the poor handling and 60 Minutes did a big story over a couple of weeks about the bike.......helped sales a lot. Not.
Suzuki quality control didn't improve much in 1985 either. Greg McDonald - the bloke that invented the GMD frame-straightening rig - used to regularly report on GSX-R750's - the first model - with steering heads that were mis-aligned from the centreline of the bike by as much as 12mm. The standard variation fell in the 5-7mm range.........absolutely shithouse for a cutting-edge sportsbike.

Re: the mammoth
I was wondering how long id be allowed to stay in the forum seeing how ive scored the mammoth but will be blending it with some kwaka engineering so I hope that still satisfies the criteria. Will it become a kawazuki or suzaki?

Re: the mammoth
Looks a good resto candidate to me davo, just try not to get too many new bits when possible, but I do also know that sometimes some
of those cantankerous bits can just get the better of ya.!!
Just enjoy the process and walk away when the frustration starts to build.....which could be often..

"Put the hammer down and step away from the bike."
The forks are very unhappy and the bikes really not "classic" material. But it is custom material
Not as much as I will be when the minister of war and finances walks into the shedThe tank looks like it's been well and truly slapped...

Re: the mammoth
well ive started to strip the suzuki down. Ive measured the swing arms anfd the kwaka has about 20 mm more width than the stocker. for those in the know am i better to reduce the swing arm width , theres meat there to shave off, or widen the frame?
