ZX10R 07 beast
So i have been riding the 98 ZX9R for a month and really like it, does everything i need and more, to the point where im considering selling the BMW K1300S, and continuing to use the 900 as the daily ride. So... for a bit more fun and occasional track day was starting to get keen on a 600cc bike. Anyways... the 07 ZX10R came up at a good price so i jumped on it. Its out of rego, by 3 weeks and has a square rear tyre. 35,000km. Did a mild run around the block before i bought it, all seems good, cant wait the get it registered and take a run up the old road one night.
It has a single 2 bros exhaust, might swap that for the Carbon Akro that will come off the K1300 when i sell it.
Is there a mid pipe to do single exhaust mounted low rather than underseat?
Anything else i should know about this animal of a bike.

Re: ZX10R 07 beast
I have a Gen 2 and love it, have been riding this for a long time now with very few dramas. The only thing I could fault were the brakes, I just didnt like or trust the feel. First thing I replaced were the calipers for a set of Nissins and braided lines.
I had a water pump go not so long ago but otherwise she is a lovely motorcycle. Yoshi carbon pipes and a ventura rack and Bob's your uncle
funny thing when I read your post, I have been thinking of splashing out on a zx9 just because I want one in the shed and maybe to mellow out a little on road trips

I have a set of Nissins lined up, and braided lines too. Better order a set of arms for my ventura setup, got the rack n bags n stuff.Kwakked Up wrote:I have a Gen 2 and love it, have been riding this for a long time now with very few dramas. Funny this you been thinking of a ZX9R, first idea was to track that, but its an awesome every day ride, so i figured a ZX6R for track and ratbagging, but the zx10 came up and couldnt resist. I think i have a great combo with these 2 bikes, and im looking forward to taking the ZX9R through Mitta Mitta and Hotham etc for our yearly 1 week tour. Early ZX9R was much heavier, C model or later are the go.

Re: ZX10R 07 beast
I have a zx7 for the track, a big lump of a beast but really planted and keeps me from trying to outride my skill level. The 10 is a great little touring bike unless you hit some of those really potholed roads which give your spleen a hammering. Enjoy

Re: ZX10R 07 beast
Nice. Great bike that.
A little more sedate than the Gen 1, but easier to ride and faster in the right hands.
Yep, the front calipers were all a bit crap on the early 10''s..
Read about a few issues with fuel pumps and stator / rectifier but doesn't appear to be too common.

Last owner kept all the servicing up to date, i need to sift through the records he gave me, but i saw one where the stator was replaced. Anyone got any calipers for sale?MadKaw wrote:Nice. Great bike that.

Re: ZX10R 07 beast
..... Loving this bike!!
Just bought a pair of 2011 CBR brake calipers, lines, spacers and bolts, should be here by next week, better get some braided lines sorted for them. Front rim had a small buckle on one side which Aldertons are sorting.
Front end has a small buzz through the bars when going over bumps. Not bearings, dont think it steering head bearings, some say it could just need the suspension changed. The last owner was a big boy, the suspension is wound up pretty hard.
Got a FI red light on the dash after 12,000rpm testout, got a few doing hairpins up Galston Gorge too. Turn the bike off it goes away. The manual says its a Fuel Injection warning and to see kwakadarki dealer. I put some injector cleaner through. Need a eliminator to plug in for that, few said dont bother, any thoughs?
anyways ... this thing has unbelievable low end and mid range grunt, and stays in the corner where i want it. Doing a day at Luddenham track end on Nov, Eastern Creek first week of December. Eager to give it a thrashing. although... the second gear wind out at $1.50 and the front wheel lightens up will need to be monitored.

If you haven't done it yet, you should be able to get the diagnostic code out of the dashKiwiMat wrote: Got a FI red light on the dash after 12,000rpm testout, got a few doing hairpins up Galston Gorge too.
