ZX What?!
ZX What?!
The days on my P restrictions are almost up and as such I'll be able to upgrade in the beginning of 2006. The GPX as basic as it is has began a bit of a love-affair with the lime green brand for me and of course that leaves me wondering what higher capacity kwakka I should upgrade to.. Price is a bit of a concern I'm trying to factor in the power - low price ratio.
I'm trying to decide between the ZXR750, the ZX6R and the ZX7R. So far I'm loving the ZX7R (we're talking 97/98 models) that go for around 7K.
Then there's the ZX6R which in my price range are 96/97 models between 5-6K. On the downside however the 6 isn't as aggressively styled and has a reputation for being more of a tourer.
The underdog is the ZXR750 which has a happy price of 5K or less but is getting old and perhaps a bit cumbersome?
What thoughts do you guys have on the best budget, green fang machine?

'88 GPX 250 for now
I am yet to hear of the owner of a 7r complain they seem a pretty good rig for the dollars and theres plenty of parts around for them.
I can also say the same thing about 6rs there owners also seem happy so go with the best deal you can find you cant go wrong.

If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

mate, the older ZXR750s are only down on the newer ZX7Rs a little bit on power and looks (depending on what your tastes are). all are very aggressive bikes that stick to the road like shit to a blanket and will give you a crook back in no time flat
suspension and position feels very similar, even the size of the bikes feel real close. the weight is about the same, in fact i think the older ones are even a little lighter (someone wanna confirm that?). i'd say if you've got the $7k+ then get the 7R but theres nothing wrong with the older ZXR if you're stretching things.....

If you decide on a 6, I have a mate with one for sale right now. '97 model, got an Omrae can, well looked after, ete etc, 6.5k its in the ballpark for $$, he will also throw 3 months sticker in.
He has recently got himself a black 10R, so the 6 is no longer needed.
cheers

Anyway as the owner of a 7R I can tell you the things are awsome, very confidence inspiring machines. And yes they are more aggressive, racey style bikes than the 6s, it just depends on what you want out of a bike. They do have lower bars, higher seats etc. But if the budget brings you to a ZXR750 fear not, I do not think there is much difference. And the 6rs have plenty of satisfied owners around here too. Even if they are little

Dont overlook the 9 . If you are looking at 6s and 7s the nine is in the same company and a bit of extra torque can be a good thing . Money wise look at recycled Gregs post in bikes for sale .
Lot of bike for the bucks .
Never been riden hard thats for sure .
You can tell from the photo it hasn't been looked after too well .
Gotta luv the 9

The zxr750 gives you heaps of bangs for bucks particularly if you can pick up a later L or M model, the only complaint i've heard about the zxr750's is the rear shock was a dog compared to the awesome front end. There's a good reveiw in http://www.bikepoint.com.au in the bikereveiws section i tried to get the link up but the site is a bit slow this morning

Good luck - old superbikes never die.
