I use kero to clean the chain - and seems to clean up the rest of the chain muck I thrown off pretty well. Not sure if it's damaging at all, but I wouldn't think so.

To get lube off your rims use Mr. Sheen. It takes it straight off with mabye a second go on really thick stuff and leaves rims looking shmick. :wink:
