faint clicking in engine

Post by decoy »

have noticed it for a while now, not sure what's causing it but it sounds like the engine (eg. still makes the noise when still), a faint ticking. bike has done 25,000kms now if that helps any. Any ideas?

It's a Kawasaki. They are meant to make tapping sounds!

Lucky you don't have a TL. Suzuki tried saying it was T for twin L for the engine config. But it's actually Ticks Loudly.

Valve clearances usually close up as time goes by and the ticking becomes quieter. Might be a bit of cam chain noise?

Does it change depending whether you have the clutch pulled or not?

I don't really think it's anything to worry about. Even new bikes make sounds. You have that much metal moving around and around and around it's allways going to make a slight mechanical sound.

Now I'd be worried if it didn't make any mechanical sound. Like when was the last time you heard a bike that made no mechanical sound.....................and to do the shims at every 5000km is over kill! :?

I'd put it down to normal engine noise, unless you'v been to the drag strip doing 11sec runs  Then I'd be worried.

My 10cents

Matey

As others have alluded to Kawasaki is a strange Japanese word, very rare indeed as it has two meanings.

1. Fuggin great motorcycle

2. Strange ticking noise

My 10 makes some weird arse ticky noises from time to time and so did my 9. Unless it gets worse or turns into a Chugupputta Chugupputa Bang noise I think your right.

Cheers

i reckon Kawasaki's are shit.... who would be happy with a ticking noise all the time? not honda riders!
