1. insert pin.
2. place mushroom end down on a hard surface.
3. Use a punch set to flat the other end. Note: not too rough
4. File the punched to make it look neat.

Thanks guys seems theres a few different ideas on the chain but i've taken mine over about 100kms since i got the chain on the other day, ( hot and really clear here in tassie for a change 
the chain seems to be holding out fine the rivets look good, well alot like the other rivets which i reckon is pretty alright.
The grinding noise from the rear disc turned out to be the rear caliper grinding on the disc.. from now on the new rule is take a really good look before you hop on after home maintenance.
Anyway thanks again lots of help.. really just wanted to make sure it could be done before i tried.
