Calling Kawasaki esoteric knowledge heads - can question.
Folks,
I'm looking for a kwaka OEM muffler model listing, that describes their can's by their KHI numbers and what bike model they're meant to fit.
I've got an '029R with a scratched up can. I was given a 2nd hand OEM can which the guy thought came from a late model 9R - but he's not sure... if I had a list, I could cross reference the can's KHI number as it is different from the one on my own bike.
With a few mods I can make the other can fit... still, I'd like to know what bike it came from.
Thanks in advance folks.
Cheers
Rob

hi Rob
(and welcome to another Netrider
)
mate
the best place on the 'net to do what you are after is....
http://www.buykawasaki.com
look at each years 9R
and look at the zorst piccies ..you have the part numbers there
to compare against the actual one you have
I know its a bit longwinded but will give you what you are after
(its either that or annoy a dealer here in Melb)
cheers

Rob, I'm pretty sure they're the same.
Dave#3's '02 and my '99 are compatible. He has a stock lying around that I'm sure he'll check out for you.
PM him as he's likely working.

Taa guys.
Just for the record, I have a KHI 445 on my bike. The can given to me is a KHI 411.
The 411 fits the bolt on flange no problems, but has a different pillion peg attachment bracket that will require some fair grinding work to make fit.
Anyway, shall follow up those leads!
Ciao for now.
Cheers

Hey Smitty,
the buykwaka site has the official catalog part numbers, not the individual component model number, so it hasn't shed much light on my query.
So I'm still on the hunt.
Cheers and thanks again.
Rob
p.s. I know there's more exciting things to rap on about, but I might raise another post asking for kwaka riders to post their OEM can KHI numbers - maybe we can build a list the good old fashioned way!

its interesting that the parts listing does not equal the part number
on the part....

fyi
the buykawasaki site lists the same part number for ZX900E and ZX900F
models cans.....see pic
so what does the KHI number on the can mean..?
cheers

Smitty, took the question right out of my mouth.
My guess is the KHI part stands for "Kwaka heavy industries".
I remember seeing the KHI thing on my GPX cans as well. I guess all OEM cans are branded in a similar way.
I'll get a digipic to demo a bit clearer.
IK, the 2nd hand can looks identical to mine in all ways except the mounting bracket to the subframe and the KHI number. It even bolts up fine to the flange on the link pipe so it must be part of the Ninja sports bike range... I'd just like to know which bike though.
Cheers.
