Smitty,
Just realised that you had a 411 in your list. Well, that solves that... I think?
The 411 muffler that I have bolts straight on, but according to the 2001 9R microfiche, the muffler looks like a slip on....???
Aaargh!
Could be a variant of the '01 9R muffler... So now the question is, would the can internals be significantly different? Better go an find an '01 workshop manual.
What do you folks think, would an earlier model muffler, for a slightly less powerful bike but with the same overall dimensions be more flowing or more restricting on a more powerful bike??? I might have to jerry rig this can and find out if there's any difference...
Let you know.
Cheers
Rob

I honestly don't think that you will feel much of a difference - stock mufflers from different models are still, after all, *stock* mufflers with all the restrictions that implies.......The only way is to try each muffler back-to-back over the same piece of road, and use the 'seat-of-the-pants' dyno.........far cheaper and plenty accurate enough for the type of modification you are doing.......Robsalvv wrote:What do you folks think, would an earlier model muffler, for a slightly less powerful bike but with the same overall dimensions be more flowing or more restricting on a more powerful bike??? Thanks Gosling and thanks Pontikat.
Pontikat, you're the 3rd gold spark bike owner I've come across... apart from me and one guy I met at a servo. There weren't that many sold in Oz... don't know why? It gets its fair share of attention!
Anyways... with the '01 9R having a claimed 143HP and the '029R with 144HP, I don't think there'll be any difference with muffler internals. They both have the catalytic converter setup... so I think I'll stop looking a gift horse in the mouth, modify the muffler's pillion bracket and put the can on the bike. That'll make things all shiny again.
Taa folks.

Check out the specs:
http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/kawasa ... a_2001.php
http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/kawasa ... a_2002.php
Almost identical - only 1HP difference... hardly anything!
http://www.motorcycledaily.com/03june02 ... 2zx9r.html
...has a good description of the not so obvious improvements between the '01 and '02 bikes.
Cheers
