from what I remember, all you need, by law, are closed shoes and a helmet. heck, you can be wearing just a sweet speedo but must have closed shoes and a helmet...
Unless the law has been changed in recent past...

I have a pair of gloves that cost me $300 - I bought them before I even got a bike as I figured they were the first thing to hit the ground. As it turns out I had a pretty big accident where I went off an embankment. I scuffed up the triple-layer palm nicely and smashed my hand hard enough to put a dent in the carbon fibre knuckle protector. The knuckle protector is so solid that I can't pop the dent back out.. I can't even move it at all........ and my hands didn't even have a mark.
I dropped my bike at low speed on a dirt road (only took the gloves off for a moment to ring the stupid truckie who was nowhere to be found) got back on my bike to go just a bit further along & was very, very unhappy when as well as dropping & scratching my bike it really hurt my hands without gloves on. What an idiot. Then had to sit for an hour holding a glass of ice in each hand before I could ride home. Not happy ... just stupid.

I am 100% sure it is not illegal to not wear gloves......it is silly, but not illegal. If they tell you it is an offence, ask them under what Section of the Motor Traffic Act.......
ps Yoda - mate mate mate, how many times have I said, use rubber gloves mate, those leather gloves just aren't up to it !!! Look at the wear mark in the centre of your palm FFS

Ah well, take it from me gloves are like a condom, it aint on if they aint on
Law compells nothing other than helmet. You can ride in ballet shoes and a tutu as long as you've got an AS1698 helmet on.I'm pretty sure closed shoes are a must in NSW...
Might attract the cops though (they like tutus)
I have a scar on the palm of my hand to this day from a) not wearing gloves b) thinking it wont happen here.
I had arrived at Broadford for a road race, unloaded the bike and also unloaded a mini pit bike. After getting all organised I jumped on the pit bke to go to sign up - no helmet no gloves. After sign up I am riding back and see a mate and decide that he should witness my expertise!! So I pull a mono on this evil little fucker and..flip the bike
All caused by a ten minute ride on a jr50 Suzuki and a "what could possibly go wrong?" attitude to gloves.
Just one more law and everyone will be safe.

Car drivers have enough trouble seeing us WITHOUT them wearing a helmet, think about how much more they wouldn't be able to see us. Are you sure you want cae drivers to wear a helmet?balanse wrote:helmets in cars first - really save lives. When will the laws be upgraded to full motorcycle gear.
