mate i reckon to check em ur gunna need to pull the discs off the bike...then u can use one of them "true" guage thingies to check it properly...jack up the front end, undo the axl bolt & slide front wheel out & its a matter of 5 min to undo the hex bolts & take disc off...dont forget to support the front end tho....

A service manual would be a good start (to check if you need any special tools for the job, and to tell you if there are any tricks to geting things apart).
You only learn by going outside your comfort zone, so have a read of the manual, get someone along that knows what they're doing, and go for your life.
Note that it will only get worse and the longer you leave it the less likely that machining/straightening will be an option.
