Brakes...
Brakes...
Ever since I had the bike there has been some vibration in the front. The faster I go and brake, the more it starts to vibrate.
I spoke to couple of mechanics and they just told me to buy brand new discs and fork out $700...
Hmmmm.....
Firstly, they didn't even test if both discs were foulty or just one.
Secondly, they didn't even bother test-riding the bike or mention streightening the discs.
Maybe thay are right and I'm wrong, but before I do anything I need your opinion on what I should do...
Does anyone know of good mechanic in Brisbane?

re: Brakes...
Could be a whole host of things - wheel balance will cause a shake, so will shot head race bearings, possibility of suspension issues too.

re: Brakes...
You might be able to clamp one side at a time and see which one is causing the problem (under controlled conditions of course).
If they are both suspect, then I'd be looking to see if something else may have caused it.

re: Brakes...
I read somewhere that disks actually get a buildup of brake pad on them and you can get them bead blasted back to new, of course i have seen ones that have been scored to death too.
where do you live mille northside or southside I know a good mechanic on the northside at geebung lae racing 38656122 ask for alex and tell him you are from ksrc hes always helpfull.
Or if your southside there is someone tanya uses but you would need her to tell you where.
are the steering head bearings properly adjusted and what year 636?

If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

re: Brakes...
Mile636, my mechanic in Logan is awesome, business is called Tony Bogaart's cycletune, he's just up the road from morgan and whacker on the service road.

re: Brakes...
Thanks Guys,
I live on southside (calamvale) so I guess I'll take to Tanya's mechanic, probably later next week.
My bike is 2002 zx6r
I thought about clamping one brake line to test the other... will try that as well...

re: Brakes...
I wouldn't try clamping a brake line mate.....not unless you're gonna replace them
Far easier to set up a stand or clamp a run out gauge to the forks and check the disks

I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.
re: Brakes...
In that case, I'll leave it for the mechanic to test it.

most vibration at the front on a bike is caused by a wheel weight that has gone west or incorrect set steering head bearings
imo
warped disks do not cause a vibration unless you are braking
hth
cheers

re: Brakes...
its ussually a simple thing, so check them 1st..head stems, fork seals, wheel weights, pad wear is even, discs arent scored.....
make sure ur fork settings are even....failing that, id take it to that mechanic....good luck with it..

re: Brakes...
Have a check to see if the previous owner might have had a disc brake lock come round and belt the caliper and in turn bend the disc.
Unless you owned it from new, in which case............
Just a thought. Have seen it before in another bike I was going to buy.

re: Brakes...
It only vibrates when I brake and I don't know the history of the bike... and I'm not confident playing around brakes myself so I'll either take to mechanic or I meet up with one of you guys from Brisbane to have a look

re: Brakes...
Cool...
How do I find out if I can get them streightend/machined. Do they have to come off or can you tell straight away?
I know of place, here in Brisbane, that do streghtening/machining but you have to bring in the discs for them to check them out, not the whole bike
If I have to get new ones, wave is the answer
