Well, that means that there's now a witness to a self-admitted hit-and-run.

You have a description of the car, a description of the driver, witnesses... time to have another crack at the cops. If the guy at the front desk continues to object to his nap being interrupted, go to another police station. If they're still not interested, some formal letters of complaint are in order.
and you can bet that they have a damn good cam at the counter and have a good clean shot of the guy that was driving the ute

Man sorry to hear that...

those f**ing UTE drivers are just like the white van man in the UK...

I reckon you should get a police photo fit of the driver and ask the station attendants to keep an eye open for him and make a note of the licence plate.... come to think of it, if he payed with his card, you might be able to track down from the time on the tapes, the people in the system and get the transport to match to the owner of the UTE...

I am going to go into the cop station tmw, a different one to the station I went into on the night. I also saw the video footage of him inside the shop and its a clear up close picture of his face. I can't believe how crap their cameras are though, every car that drove out had a blurry number plate. Ill update you guys tmw.

My insurance company (AAMI) told me that unless I had their details (ie name and address) then there was nothing that they could do. Now are they trying to piss me off thinking I won't follow it up, or are they really just not trying at all? Even if I had their number plate AAMI told me I would have to call the police, who would then call the owner of that rego plate / vehicle requesting that it was okay to pass their details on to me. Somehow I think I'm getting screwed over here.

Man that sucks. I hope it all works out for you. I thought the insurance should still cover you anyway as there are lots of different scenario's that could damage your bike that would leave you in the same spot - with no info on the offender. let us know how you get on.

That's rubbish IMO..

The guy has caused an accident and fled the scene.. That is even worse, and surely charges could be laid.. If only you had the rego, because then the police would have to get his details to file suit against him. Plus you have a witness to say it was him, but no rego then well you're screwed really... No street camera's near by? Sounds like he must be a local.. Might pay to go wondering around looking for the ute... If you recognise him from the photo, then go knock on the door. If it is him. Then you have an address to report and well if he isn't forth coming.. Just remind him you know where he lives and give us the address ;)

I went into the Southport police station today where I had to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes before being served. Once the Senior Constable took me in it took another 1 hour and 10 minutes to do the report. So I have now lodged an official Traffic Incident Report, and the officer took an offical statement. I asked the manager of the servo if he minded keeping the video on hand and he was more then happy to. The officer said they might take a look at it but its unlikely they will do an playing around with it, or enhancing to get the number plate, as he said its not worth it for an incident like this new_2gunsfiring_v1.gif

A mate of mine who has suncorp insurance (for his car) said they have a no onus policy, so if something like this does happen and you have a witness then I won't have to pay the excess. Is it only Suncorp that has this?

I'm with the NRMA, i have 3rd party property and comprehensive insurance with them. In no uncertain terms in the case of a not-at-fault accident they have said that i *MUST* have the drivers details, name, address and license number before they will do anything. Just giving them the rego isn't sufficient. If i dont have those details it's either my issue to fix the problem (3pp or comp), or in the case of my comprehensive insurance, my excess if i follow through with the claim.
