cupla things mate
one-they are very illegal in Oz (all states afaik)
If the plod sees it or even thinks you have one
the fines are VERY large and they can 'search' the vehicle to check
maybe Jase can add to this bit
two- the plod have worked out that they should have 2 or more
bands that pulse (IOW the radar gun is only for a fraction of a second)
then it changes frequency
most detectors require longer than that to 'see' the gun or detect
a frequency (any frequency)
and finally...a lot of the stuff coming into the country comes from
the US, where the frequencies can be different (be careful
when checking what frequencies the detector 'detects')
hth
cheers
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

LDD works on the principle of every device that uses/recieves electromagnetism emits its own magnetic field, etc.. and theres a distinct type of signature given (at a different freq to the original radar frequence, due to one reason or another) by radar detectors. Thusly RDD's are designed to detect that. You can minimise the chance of being detected by taking some precautions, but in the end that'd reduce the effectiveness of the detector itself.
That and the chance the only way to tell your mods worked is if they dont pull you over and confiscate it / wallet rape you. Kinda an expensive experement if you ask me.

Big fines, confiscation and destuction of the unit and searching of the vehicle are all some of the downfalls of using/possessing a radar detector.
They don't work on lasers (which is the speed detector of choice in SA) despite the manufacturers lies. The new lasers work instantaneously (or at least, the time it takes light to travel from the laser to the vehicle and back). As laser is VERY directional with a very low spread pattern, the chance of a device being able to detect it is extremely slim!!
There are radar detector detectors out there but there are other ways to work out if someone is using a radar detector.
I'd suggest that it's easier and cheaper not to speed, but what would I know?

I don't have a problem with the local force catching me......I mean, if you're gonna speed then you MUST be observant.
What I hate are the sneaky hide the camera in the bushes or even worse the police car coming towards you in a line of traffic.
FFS give us a sporting chance
