Mina,
to the contrary mate. I just believe as do the UK forces that it helps engender a good spirit between the riding community and the police who try to maintain some kind of order.
Jason,
yes mate they are generally well attended and if you check the diary you will see that they sell out well in advance .....20 pounds = about $50, it used to run along the lines of 20 to 30 minute lectures and then 2 to 3 hours of observed riding by the bike police, they normally sit behind you for an hour or so then stop for coffee / smoko and then it's now follow me and watch my lines/road position....more coffee and then back behind you to see if you have learned anything.
Back to base and a de-brief

Considering that when summer hits all the bike cops i see get around with no jacket the first steps of setting a good example have gone out the window!
with 22 years of riding & never without a jacket I can speak from experience that I would not want these people getting involved with rider traning or motorcycle publicity before cleaning up their own act!
Ive got no gripe with the cops themselfs just the standard set

Spending 8 - 14 hours a day in a leather jacket and pants when it's 40+ degrees is just plain shit! You can blame the department itself for failing to provide their workers with adequate equipment.robracer wrote:Considering that when summer hits all the bike cops i see get around with no jacket the first steps of setting a good example have gone out the window!

I was a bike courier for a few years so I can understand the frustration butaardvark wrote:Spending 8 - 14 hours a day in a leather jacket and pants when it's 40+ degrees is just plain shit! do you mean riding for 8-14 hours without a chance to get the kit off for a break?
See your point but at 7.00 am in the morning its not always that temp
So who has the duty of care?
anyway open mesh jackets & bring it on

Sometimes there isn't a chance to get the gear off.robracer wrote:I was a bike courier for a few years so I can understand the frustration but do you mean riding for 8-14 hours without a chance to get the kit off for a break?

The employer has the duty of care, but given that we have had very, very few accidents over a long history of riding, I guess in their risk assessment spending the money on decent gear isn't worth it...
I'd be happy to wear an open mesh jacket if they gave me one.

What a stupid question... are the Police doing something imaginative and constructive... you have to be kidding right? Most of them are down in the line up at Krispy Kreme looking to identify that latest jam filling.

Some people are like slinkies good for nothing but still fun when you toss them down the stairs.

I think it is a great idea.
I for one would like to personally know that guy that is pulling me up for doing 200 (or a mono) on an open hiway with no one else in cooee.
Might be a "pull your head in" instead of 6 months in goal....
There are WAY too many people out there see it all as a "Game" (some cops too unfortunately)
It might feel like a game but the TILT function is a killer.....

Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD
