Insurance claim

Post by javaman »

How does it work? Someone hit my bike few months ago and his insurance approved his claim. Got a call from the insurer yesterday to bring my bike to the repairer and they will pay for it.

Question is can they just give me the check ? I'm not too keen to have the bike few weeks in the repairer.

they have already given you a quote for the repairs? or they just said bring it in and they'll fix it. I think that as the insurance was for them not you, they cant really say "bring it in", best id say you call em and ask for a cheque instead as you cant afford the off-road time of the bike.

I gave them 2 quotes. They took the cheaper one (understandably). So now they tell me to go to the repairer to get it fixed and they will pay for it.

hmm, i still say make a request for the cheque so you can organise it yourself rather than having to have it be referred to the shop. man i dunno, just say you want a cheque so you can organise it yourself

Thanks. I just want to know if it's common for insurance to hand out checks.

yeah mate, demand the cheque from them. You shouldn't get your bike fixed according to their schedule, but your schedule. He caused that damage and you are entitled to that money.

I think you will find that the insurance company drove the repair cost down lower than the " cheapest quote " and the cheque would be for more, that's why they told you to "take it in" I would ask to see the paperwork to check the repair cost.

If you can get a cheque Andy well and good but I'll be suroprised if you do, think theynwill write a cheque out to Brighton Kwasaki or whoever the repairer is ore likely

or maybe if you pay for repairs & they then reimburse you.

Its up to the insurer's own policy what they do or offer. Some
will give you a cheque for you to do as you please with it, others
wont.

you claimed from his insurer i am assuming

then ask them for a cheque and accept nothing less

He caused damage so he is liable to pay for that damage , it is not a requirement for you to get the damage repaired now or in the future , but they are required to pay for the damage that has been caused

I wouldnt tell them anything , worst case is tell them you are need your bike to be on the road and cant afford to have it off the road at this point in time (esp if its still rideable)

if they are refusing to give you a cheque then ask the question why this is , if they still refuse mention that you will be calling the insurance ombudsman

make some calls and then come back and let us know how you get on
