zxr250 cutting out
zxr250 cutting out
hey guys, I'm having some troubles again with my bike.
the zxr250 starts up fine in the morning. after a ride down the street and back, the bike will conk out at a stand still. ill try to start it up again but there isn't any luck. i'll leave it for a good hour or so and then try to start it again and it'll start up just fine. if i leave the bike to idle for a bit, it'll cut out and then i wont be able to start it again.
any tips or pointers will be great guys.
cheers!

sounds like a fuel problem - check your fuel tap / vacumn lines / filter . If these all check out, then you may have a dirty needle & seat. This will need cleaning and maybe replacement if they are stuffed.
Check these areas first before you start looking at electrical issues. The symptoms you have described are typical of a bike with fuel problems of one sort or another.

yeah, it does sound like a fuel problem.
i did replace a gasket for my fuel tap recently. hmmmm
but then again...when i take the fuel hosing off, it drips out fuel still..
i even try to simulate how the tank would sit on my bike and it still leaks a normal amoutn of fuel out.
but i mite just put the old gasket back in the fuel tap and see how it goes.
i did take out the vacuum though (well my mechanic did b4 and said the bike ran better with out it, as there was constant fuel flowing from the tank all the time...the gasket for the tap was fkd).
but yeah, any chance of an heating problem or anything like that?

its strange, its never done this b4 till i finally changed the top end of the bike and everything seem to run fine.
don't think its anything to do with my fuel tap as there is a substantial amount flowing when i took the tank off and switched it on and off.
any chance of it being something to do with the top end? but then again, it seems to run better with this top end as b4 it couldnt rev pass 16k and now it can go all the way.
seems like when it gets warm/hot it wont start up anymore.
EDIT
can anyone tell me if it has anything with the spark plugs?
hot or cold spark plugs?

after checking your fuel system, check your battery.
I had a little problem with my zx2 few months back. It would start fine in morning, idle fine then come to a stop sign down the road then stop. It would still tick over and almost sound like it would start again. I cleaned all my fuel stuffs and added in filter but still happened.
It took a tow truck ride to a shop to tell me all it was was a battery!

I wouldn't think so, not from the description anyway. Sounds like it doesn't need to get really warm before it starts exhibiting these symptoms ? If it is a 'heat' problem, then it *may* be the fuel lines sitting in a position where they get too hot, and you are having fuel vaporisation problems ....SuN~e wrote:.....but yeah, any chance of an heating problem or anything like that?
If you have a multitester, just bung it across the battery terminals with the voltage reader set to , say, 20 V DC. Check voltage with no ignition, then ignition on, then start the bike and see what the readings are. This is an easy way to diagnose a dud battery (and possible voltage regulator issues.)
Knock yourself out mate, there is nothing better than tracking down problems and fixing them yourself, its a better feeling than sex with your neighbours red-hot teenage daughter

cant find the link again, but i sent Sonny this page on a guy with a 350 showing the same probs and it was somthing about old fuel that had gummed up on the needles and in somthing to do with the choke, and when it ran hot ... blah blah somthing somthing somthing i forget
ring any bells for anyone here?

i went to red baron (liverpool) in the morning today as it was my closest mechanic place and they told me it could be an electrical thing. since when it gets too hot it wont start up so im guessing its sort of a system where it wont start for that reason.
they said it would take a good hours work to sus is out etc and gonna charge me 80 dollars for it. thats without replacing anything i suppose.
booked in for them to do it next thursday.
*sigh*
