Genesis Of A Racebike - IT LIVES !!!!!

Here are some photos of the first bike to be built this year. Apparently February has been renamed "Build a Superbike Month"

, so its time to spin some spanners. This is the Forgotten Era bike I intend to race in the PCRA Champs later this year......
Frame - 1980 Z750. Some mods already done, all excess brackets, etc, ground off. Further mods - engine mounts to be modified to suit motor, further bracing on frame tubes.
Wheels - Class-legal 3.5x17 front, 4.5x17 rear. Unsure of heritage, I *think* they are GSX-R rims from the early 90's.
Swingarm - Box-section aluminium swingarm, modded as required.
Motor - 1980 Z1000J motor - 1170cc capacity, otherwise stock ...
Forks have not yet been obtained, have rear brake but no front rotors or calipers at this early stage. The visit to PI last week gave me a few ideas on what is / isn't legal

.
This baby should hit the scales around 180kg dry, and those old 2-valve donks can put out a reliable 130-140hp. It should be a weapon.

Yes I have been a bit slack............did a proper trial engine-fit today, looking good, top front mounts line up , lower fronts will need to be moved, and rear mounts line up as well...........ya just gotta love KHI 'economies of scale'....
Already changed the swingarm, I had forgot about the GSX1100 number floating under a bench, its a better fit and lighter as well, so its going to be used instead. Used some old shocks, fitted the rear wheel up to the s/arm to check the chain run............well I'll be buggered, it lined up straight

one less problem to worry about.
This bike really will be..........."......
you know Maxy.........a piece frome here.............and a piece from there..........."

Hey Gos, get an early Ceranni front end from a 860 or drama ducati, word is that R6 cartridge goes in pretty easyand works damn well, "alledgedly" is what Leo Cash uses in his Honda up here.

Cheers roo, I know a couple of the post-classic guys down here with those front ends.........
I am going to do a number on a set of forks that are 'visually indistiguishable' from the forks used on the TKA Z1000SR - the endurance racer that was ridden by Gregg Hansford in the Coca-Cola 800 at Oran Park in March 1980. The forks on that bike were 40mm, used twin horizontal pinch-bolts on the lower legs, and look *identical* in every respect to some forks used later on by KHI on a particular road bike....
At the moment, there is some issue with twin pinch-bolt lowers in Period 5 racing, all the fast punters at the Island Classic a couple of weekends ago were running modified lowers, so that only 1 pinch bolt was used......

It beats the shit out of me, I cannot recall *any* forks from the era (1972-1980) that used single horizontal pinch bolts - except maybe some old Marzocchi's or something ?? Maybe it was the fork lowers used on some of the early Bimota's that are deemed as *era-specific* ......
