Fork Oil for F model 9
Hey kids anyone know how much fork oil i put in each fork leg of Tiggr ?
Seals aren't leaking so i was going to measure how much comes out & put same amount back in. I know there's a MUCH more techie way to do it & any imput would be appreciated.
Going to 5wt to get it a little softer for my Huge 60kg's

Re: Fork Oil for F model 9
I actually run 5wt in mine now too Nana! It does make it much nicer in the action. My suspension guy has a secret level he runs, which is a little higher than stock to reduce bottoming out to the bump stops.Pontikat wrote:Hey kids anyone know how much fork oil i put in each fork leg of Tiggr ?

Give Trevor Manly (TM performance) a call and tell him I put you onto him and he may give you the setting he used on mine! Being in QLD I think he won't mind. 0437 071 595. He is often up to his elbows in forks, springs and valving so leave a message n he will get back to you.

The number you need is the height from the top of the fork tubes..
Not sure what it is for yours but the 98 was about 150mm..

Ponti,
I'm sure you can borrow a syringe and a bit of plastic tubing which fits the end ?
I had a flat plate which I drilled a hole to suit the end of the syringe attached the tube to the other side and then cut the tube to the required length

here's an idea of the tool I made up
The flat plate sits on top of the fork leg and the measurement taken from the bottom of the flat plate to the end of the tube (123mm), suck the oil out using the syringe.......no more oil means you will have the exact measurement to the top of the oil
Smart eh ??

I just stuck a tape measure down mine, you can see the end..
With conventional forks its not to bad as you just fill em to the correct level. On upside down forks you have to overfill the tubes up to the air holes near the top and ensure the space between the inner tube and outer tube is full of oil. Then remove the oil in the inner tube to the correct level...
Hmm, that sounded ok to me ..

Yeh,
so long as you pump the piston in the fork "at least" 10 strokes you should dispel all the air and don't forget me and Ponti have "older" eyes and the numbers on tape measures get progressively smaller with each birfday - so once you have made the oil guage pump the only time you'll need to alter it is when you change your bike
