I'm a panzy - Heated grips!

Post by deafwish »

It's obviously now getting bloody cold and I want to look at keeping my precious hands warm, whilst I ride.........
I have borrowed winter gloves from a mate and my hands still freeze and I don't like the lack of feeling I have by wearing them.
I currently use Alpinestars SP3 leather gloves.

I have considered getting heated grips and want to know how effective they are.
I hate the look of the grips with the built in elements, as they have a big ass wire that moves when you twist the grip.....
I prefer the one with the insert type element that you simply put under your existing grips and wire it in, with a small switch for low, high and off.
How warm do they keep your hands? Could I get away with continuing to wear my leather race type gloves with the 'insert' type heated grips?
Any comments or ideas are appreciated!

Cheers.
Daz.

Pansy! No way! GET THEM!!!

We got them last year and they're the duck's preverbials. Don't get Oxford Hot Grips like we did though, we've had no end of dramas with the switches. We've both had them replaced, twice for Mal and once for me.

They're seriously toasty warm and have a dial that you can up or down the heat with. The hottest setting is too hot (about 35 degrees I think) and make your hands sweat on a freezing day. I usually have mine about a third of the way up and its delicious. Keep in mind though that your fingertips and the outside of your hands are still a little chilly.

They have the elements inside of the grip, ie you remove your existing ones and slip these ones on (with the super glue provided).

When your hands are warm the rest of you is less likely to feel as cold as quickly. I was the same and could never keep my hands warm, no matter how good the gloves.

Get some, you'll never regret it :)

I wouldn't ride without it. In fact I did a track day with it It's amazing.

If you know bit of electronics you can build one for $15 with change.

  Until I bought the 12, that is *exactly* what I used to do on the Pearl - every winter. Stop at the lights, quick 15-20 seconds of each hand held against the side of the cylinder block and *Bingo* instant warm hands........

Used to get some wierd looks from the cage drivers though, 'cause it looks like you are 'cuddling' your engine....

I got em put on my bike, Hubby n brother in law all scoffed.

Guess who now has them on their bikes ?

Nothing better, winter.... I see other bikers, rubbing hands.. bending down to warm up on engine etc.

I simply snicker..keep ma hands on the bars.. and as an added bonus if its really cold when you get off.. Insert toasty warm gloves inside ya jacket to warm other bits :D

Got em from the us, never had a prob with any switches.. two settings, though I tend to only use the warm, not the hot one.
