Midrange cams for a 2001 zx9r

I have been trying with very little luck to my hands on a set of midrange cams I can buy a secondhand set of cams then I would have to send them to brisbane I would just love to be able to get my hands on a new set of midrange cams any help wpuld be great just point me in the right direction

umm, can I ask a silly question.........what is wrong with the mid-range of the stock cams ? Most aftermarket cam grinds are for 'performance' ie more lift and greater duration.....I think you might be pushing it uphill with a pointy stick to find aftermarket cams that are *midrange* cams.....

Your best option would probably be to check with someone like Ivan Tighe in Qld, he may be able to re-grind your cams for more *midrange*.....

Not sure, but the z1000 cams may fit.
The z1000 motor is the same as the 02/03 zx9r apart from being bored out, injection, heavier flywheel and different cams for improved mid range. ????
May not fit the 01..

when I took my 9R in for a dyno tune it come back with only 144.84 at the crank which = 129.32 at the rear wheel this is after having a stage 1 jet kit and BMC air filter put on the guy there recomended i put a mid range cam in which should give me aprox 15 more bhp dont know if he is feeding me bs or not

Dunno if you have or not but a jet kit and filter won't really do anything without a full system... or at least a slip on...

As a matter of fact the stock filter with the backing mesh removed flows better than most aftermarket filters. Don't last as long though.

I had a factory pro jet kit, BMC race filter (dynoed same with stock mesh removed) full akro, 4 deg advancer, 520 chain kit, and a some tidying up in the head and my 98 zx9r put out 148 rw hp...

The Z1000 has a different head to the 9, so the cams may not fit.

Gearing's a better bet for more punch, bang-for-buck wise. I'd suggest that if you went after more power using cams and/or head work, you'd probably lose some bottom end and midrange. Not a good look for the street. My opinion, of course.

I got a yoshi carbon slip on b4 I had the 9R on the dyno would love the kinda HP your putting out any idears im open to any suggestion's

I think the best thing is a full system, the Akropovics are usually the go.
I'd also look at an ignition advancer.

that would be great madkaw as i said im all ears I even considered a big borkit 995cc B.U.TTTTTTTT then i would start affecting the riderfrendlyness and engine reliability and i dont whant that.

I wouldn't touch the big bore kit, from what I've heard and seen they aren't worth the trouble.
TKA used the muzzy one in 02/03 and it was unreliable and didn't really produce the HP..

130 rwhp is pretty much spot-on for a 9. I don't know how they could give you a crank hp figure, unless it was an engine dyno ?? Was the dyno done using the back wheel to power the dyno ?

I think the guy is feeding you a load of crap about the *mid-range* cam, you should go back to the shop and ask him exactly where you are supposed to get one of these for your bike ....

Re-ground cams are the go, but what you gain in the mid-range will *probably* be lost in the top-end. Gearing changes are way easier and cheaper.
