The parents will get the car back quick if they are smart. He is 16 and on Ls, therefore they did not give him permission to use it. It then becomes a stolen vehicle and should not be held under the hoon laws. Had they have given him the keys it's a different matter.

Now, his family is facing a fight in court and more than $500 in storage and towing fees to recover the silver sedan after it was impounded.

"He has lost the car but the owners will have to make an application to the court if they want it back. And there have to be all sorts of representations about hardship for that to happen," Inspector Ian Pride said.

No prejudice here - but if the area stated is anything to go by - mummy and daddy will sort it all out for him, pay the fines n wotever, and there will be no (or minimal) consequences for him and hence no lesson learnt! And he'll probably go out and do it again.

I don;t know about you guys, but my folks would have been wrapped if all I ever did was get busted by the cops, for joy riding in the old mans car!

FWIW, by the time I had hit 14, the boys in blue had already taken me home, to tell the folks about my antics on the roads with their car.

When we we're kids, we were scared of the wooden spoon and dads hand! These days however no discipline (or very little) for a lot of kids - and a lot of em (no not all of em!) turn out to be brats with no manners and/or show very little respect. And these days the lengths they will go to, or the risks they are prepared to take seem to be more extreme.

Don't get me wrong Marty, I'm not saying I was perfect - far from it (and no, I'm not going into detail lmao) ....... but I was disciplined just the same, that's all.

I'm with you ZXRobyn... these days there is no disapline, no respect and no accountability.
I'm all for fun and learning from your experiences....but there has to be accountability for the lesson to be learnt.
Hell im no angel..... rolled my grandads tractor.. with him still on it at the age of 14...no he wasnt hurt.. but i couldnt sit down for a week...Wooden spoons were getting expensive in our house so old polly sat behind the door..( polly pipe)

This is what happens when you take away the parents right to discipline the kids! When i was a young bloke the thought of facing my old man if i'd done something stupid scared the shit out of me. But getting the occasional clip around the ears didn't turn me into an angry abusive man, it smartened my bloody ways up tho! I'm not one for belting the shit out of kids but a smack on the arse when they do something out of line is fine by me. Kids these days are out of control, and seriously lacking respect for their elders.
