4-stroke compactor problem.... HELP!!!
Don't you just hate it when you borrow something from a mate and it goes and packs up on you???
Bloke from work lent me his 4 stroke vibrating compactor to do my paving. Ran a treat all last week and got a lot of work done. Been at work all this week so stuck it in the shed.
Dig it out today and the bloody thing runs like a dog.
Checked the oil levels, air filter etc this morning.
Started off blowing a heap of black smoke out of the exhaust. Pulled the plug out and it was covered in carbon. Gave it a clean and stuck it back in. Fired it up, smoke cleared, seemed to be running fine then.... POP. Not a bang, just a pop.
Current symptoms:
Kind of starts but blows black carbon out of the exhaust.
Top of piston doesn't look damaged but is partially covered in some black gunge...
Any ideas? I'm guessing it's going to need to go to a service centre....

Thanks Smitty.... choke appears to be working. If I turn it one way, it makes a loud POP and dies. If I turn it the other way, nothing.Smitty wrote:maybe carby flooding ???

I thought it might be the air filter so I've just ripped that out and given it a clean. The good wife has gone out to grab a new plug for it.
It's actually a fairly new machine and has some kind of wierd Chinese motor.

Probably a Honda motor, they might outsource them for other shit

A good mate will bail you out of jail, a true mate will be sitting in the cell next to you saying "Damn, we fucked up!!!"

It's a static engine - not too dificult. Be it Honda, Robin, BS or otherwise it all comes down to the principles - Fuel, Electrical or mechanical.
I Thought you would be done with the paving by now?
Theres an RD waiting you know -----Hurry up

Tell me about it... the leaking storm water pipe set me back a day and then I had to go back to work. Hopefully have it sorted this weekend, although Aussie Superbikes are on.... might just have to go out and watch on Sunday.Slow and wobbly wrote:I Thought you would be done with the paving by now? All is good in the world of compacting again!!!
Took the air filter out, washed it in water and clothes washing powder, then washed it in petrol. Sprayed it with some filter oil. Put in a new sparkplug... one made in Japan, not the crappy Chinese piece of shit that was in it and WOOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!

Re: 4-stroke compactor problem.... HELP!!!
Get it going yet mate??
These are my bread n butter
most 'Wacker" plate compactors run a OHV Honda 5.5hp or their chinese twin. The Chinese twin has no indication on the fuel and choke knobs to tell you on from off.
1st - undo the 10mm carb float bowl bolt and remove the steel bowl .clean crap out of it and BEFORE you put it back on , operate fuel tap to work out ON from OFF then mark the bastard..
Choke knob will be on the same side as the fuel ON when warm.ie Opposite for cold start.
Too many revs will engage eccentric drive and she'll try to take off / scare the shit out of you / stall coz it's too cold.
See how you go.
