Runing probs and starting probs

Post by AnthonyH »

Hi all im having probs with my ZZR my little brother dropped it a wile back and now having some issues after he dropped it the bike still started and ran but not for very long it started to die in the revs and then would not idel. When you got it to start it was very hard to get the revs up really had to play with the throttle to get them up and then it just died and could not get it to start again. then it sat in the shed for a few weeks i went back to try and start it and nothing didn't even kick over found out later it was the ignition relay got that fixed and the bike started i left it to idle seemed to be running but smelled and bit rich and a bit of smoke was blowing from the exhausts thought it was cuz it was siting for a bit. gave it a few revs was reving fine left it idle then about 10mins l8ter it stopped tried to start it again and it took a few mins to start again and same thing was going on again as before. got it to start after about 15mins didn't last to long. Thought it could have been the fuel empty the fuel tank and put fresh stuff in. Nothing could not even get it to start left it for a few days when back out put the key and hit the button and bame she started fine ran fine idled fine ran for about 20 or so mins fine then stopped checked the tank it was empty so i went and got some some more fuel put it in bout half a tank or just under got it to start ran for about 40 secs died. left it be when back the next day and that fuel was empty so 2 times the tank drained and when you try and start it all you can smell is fuel. Sorry fro the long post just wanted to include every thing that i could think of that was wrong and what it was doing.

Dunno about a full diagnosis - you need some punctuation and hit enter a few times to make your post easier to read ;)

Blackish fluid from the bottom left side would be oil. I'd check your sump plug (if you still have one) and try to track down the exact location of the leak.

Some of the other symptoms sound like your carbs might need a clean up and/or re-balance. You might also have a fuel leak. I suggest you give the bike a good clean (if it's not clean already) and start checking all your hoses and engine joins.

the carbs need cleaning as the fall has some dirt in the needle and seat causing the fuel to flow continuously

all the fuel has drained into the sump

clean carbs and change engine oil

Hey thx for the reply's guys i pulled the carbe out 2day and yes one of the needle and set had some grit in it. I cleaned it all out to the beast i could drained the sump which was more filled with fuel them oil. filled with fresh whit what i had left oil kicked her over and she ran like a dream even went for a wee ride but had some probs with the clutch couldn't let it all the way out or there would be no revs also was very hard to get it into 3rd gear thought it might have been not enough oil as it was only just up to the little window. Got some more oil topped it up started the bike up put it in to gear as soon as i tried to take of she died. now it's doing the same thing as first . Im thinking off just taking a match to it.
