Coolant Question....
Hey Guy's
After stopping off at pheasant's nest on the way home from Wakefeild this arvo I noticed a dry white-ish powder all over the right hand side of the Zed
.....Pulled the right hand side shroud of there and then and noticed the top hose on the inlet to the radiator was leaking
.....So tightened her up but noticed ther is no radiator cap on the radiator
.....Does anybody know how I top the fluid back up
...Couldn't locate the overflow anywhere can I just top it up?....Don't really wanna take it to the mechanic to charge me an arm and a leg to do....

Re: Coolant Question....
If you just want to top it off and you are sure it is not totaly dry you can save pulling the tank by just filling up the reservoir on the left side of the bike, warm up the motor then turn it off and let it cool. It will pull the coolant from the reservoir. you should do this a couple of times and the reservour level should drop, indicating its pulling in fluid. Antifreeze unlike water expands when it's hot forcing coolant into the reservoir or in this case air and when it contracts when it cools it will pull coolant back. A Jim Beam will make you see God.

Re: Coolant Question....
Daves problem was that coolant was leaking from the hose off the radiator on the right hand side leaking onto the engine and side of the bike... well see how he goes

Re: Coolant Question....
He states that he fixed the leak so unless he lost more than half the fluid it would ne easier to warm it up and let the cooling suck up the coolant, however taking the tank off is no big deal, just a pain in the ass. I would suggest liberal usage of Jim Beam and beer.P4nza wrote:Daves problem was that coolant was leaking from the hose off the radiator on the right hand side leaking onto the engine and side of the bike... well see how he goes

Re: Coolant Question....
Make sure ypu use GENUINE KAWASAKI coolant at the correct % if not pre mixed Dave.
If in doubt use garden variety DISTILLED WATER ONLY to top her up.
all coolants ARE NOT created equal and mixing up coctails may be good for after ride piss ups but very bad fpr bike cooling systems

(If she's a new bike , the supplying dealer should be happy to supply you with the coolant since you fixed their warranty issue for them
)

Re: Coolant Question....
Heh Matt this is of a lot of interest to me at the moment - with the recent damage to the MFP12 including a busted coolant tank - I have drained all the OEM coolant and the system is currently dry - however, I should have the lower radiator pipe later this week, so will be looking to fill the cooling system and be riding the bike (in unwashed, streetfighter format
) - by the end of the week.....
I have also recently replaced the radiator in the VN dunnydore, and have about 3 litres of concentrated coolant - Nulon - left over. This stuff gets mixed at a ratio of 1:3 with distilled water....
Is this OK for the 12 do you reckon ? It apparently exceeds all applicable standards for vehicles with alloy radiators etc etc according to the blurb on the back of the bottle.....
Not having used coolant on any other of the bikes in the 4th
, I am not that across all the differing styles of coolant etc - what is it about the Kawasaki coolant that would be different/better ?? than this Nulon stuff ?? I can grab the specs off the bottle if that helps ?
cheers

Re: Coolant Question....
yeah just sell it poof..on top of the coolant hose leaking it probably has a stonechip, a couple of bugs and has probably got all that yucky carbon build up starting to collect in the bikes exhaust system..

Re: Coolant Question....
Should be fine Gos - A good idea before changing types of coolant is to flush the original coolant residue for a few minutes ie garden hose shoved up the lower rad' hose - in your case you could do it before you replace the hose etc.

Oh yeah and Carbon U.C.C??? I thought you tasweigens rode harder than that ??

How do you manage to string 2 words together when Neville Bartos is polishing your tiny knob with his buck teeth ??UncleChopChop wrote:yeah just sell it poof..on top of the coolant hose leaking it probably has a stonechip, a couple of bugs and has probably got all that yucky carbon build up starting to collect in the bikes exhaust system..

Word on the street Chopper, is that Mick Gatto has a contract out on your fat arse......only problem is, he is having difficulty finding a semi-trailer big enough to fit ya fat fuckin' head in when he nails you from behind !!! And you like it from behind doncha mate - remind you of bath-time back in Jika Jika eh ???
thanks Matt - the original coolant residue is all out of the rad, but there is probably some still in the water pump.....will flush that out as well....IsleofNinja wrote:.....Should be fine Gos - A good idea before changing types of coolant is to flush the original coolant residue for a few minutes ie garden hose shoved up the lower rad' hose - in your case you could do it before you replace the hose etc......
