z500 first road bike first project....

Post by nojockey »

Brought the z500 1981 after seeing some absolute crackers of cafe racers getting around, prob could have opted for the more reliable lams bikes on the market but the z500 was too hard to pass up. hoping to tidy it up get it running sweet and enjoy the year i have with it then pass it onto another learner with same taste in bikes.
Hoping someone could point me in the right direction for parts and getting a motorcycle workshop which might be able to help with some things I am unable to do.. in and around sydney prefferably.
cheers

Parts for these bikes can be hard to find. Penrith Wreckers have helped me out in the past for bits for older bikes.....also, try using Findapart - just follow the 'motorcycle' links down the side. You put in all the details for your bike, your email address, and hit enter. Within a few days, you will get replies about your enquiry. Keith from Victorian MC wreckers often has bits for older bikes as well. Ebay can often see bits for these pop up from time to time. US ebay is the best place, but you need to be prepared to shop with a credit card hooked up to Paypal. It's worth the effort.

EBAY! ........ I bought a b motor for $150, pretty much complete & 2 c motors in various states with a ton of other spares from a speedway dude for the princely sum of $250 just keep looking & you can be lucky, I set up a permanent search on ebay so I did not even have to search, the notifications dropped in the in box automatically 8) the lot went a while back when I ran out of time to build up the race bike :(

I'd imagine a lot of GT550 bits would fit, particularly earlier GT, as the engines are so similar too.
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

Hey nojockey,

Were you able to easily find a source of parts for your z500 to do your restoration?
