Tyre choice ZX6RR
Gday, on the weekend I noticed my rear tyre needs replacing. Can anyone advise what is a good tyre as there is so much info I am getting confused! Currently I am running Michellin Pilot Powers, although not th 2CT so I think single compound. I have used the whole tyre but the middle is where it is worn worst - in fact if there wasn't the middle tread line which is dead centre I could get away with a few more thousand kms - dam that middle line. So I think I want a tyre without the middle line.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks
Ben

I suffer, (or rather my bike does) from the same affliction, the center of the tire is worn but not the outer portions too much. I've been doing some checking and Michelin has come out with a new tire to replace the 2ct, (multi compound) tire, it's called the Michelin Power pure. I have ordered a front and rear and will be installing them this coming Wednesday. The write ups in Bike and Fast Bikes magazines are all positive. I will post a thread when I have them broken in and tested, (probably late Wednesday). I don't like to push too hard until I get a couple of hundred miles on new tires.

Thanks, will look forward to how you find them.
I ride to work and back each day (approx 40kms), a few turns, but mostly straight roads
most fun I get is with a decent roundabout but then I can lean ok so don't want something ultra hard

I just put a bridgestone bt 023 front on my er6 and have the 021 on the back. grip is good for a sport tourer type tyre and the rear has done 6000k and is still good. only just got 6000k from the rear dunlops I was using before.

I got about 10000klm from a set of Pilot Road 2. city traffic.
hopefully getting a set of Pilot Pures this week, which are supposed to be similar with a 'hard' centre section but with a bit more grip on the sides.

The Pilot Pure is a replacement for the old Power 2CT. So, centre compund is like a power, with the edges like a pilot race. Most likely you will get a lot less wear from them than you did with the Pilot Road 2's.un_majstk wrote:I got about 10000klm from a set of Pilot Road 2. city traffic.![]()

Ben, if commuting is the main usage, you may benefit from a tyre which gives you long centre tread life, quick warm up, good wet weather grip and yet still be able to carve up some corners on the odd available weekend, then the Pilot Road 2's might work OK for you. I have used a few sets of these and get similiar life to what others have at about 8-9k from a rear. They grip well enough to keep a big old fat ZRX1200 and it's dinosaur pilot in front of all the sports bikes down the Bonang on this years WSBK Tour. Mind you, the legendary Wattie wasn't present this year.....

The point being, that they stick well enough wet or dry, feel good, wear well and are reasonably priced now. There are a few in here who swear by the new Roadsmart 2's. I can't comment on them as I have only used the previous version. But I do believe they were the only tyre to spit anyone off down the Bonang on this years WSBK tour!!!

There are also those who will swear by the Metzler M3. I found them just OK as a tyre, but edge grip was a bit iffy from my usage. However, they have a new version of this out now and it might be worth a look. Actually, PM Phil, he most likely has a set on one of his bling steeds and could give you some accurate feedback on what they are like.

Yep, I have M5's on the ZRX. Only 1 ride so far but the feel pretty good to me. I am already past indicator 5, the elephant only has toes left after 1 ride.Strika wrote:The Pilot Pure is a replacement for the old Power 2CT. From what I can gather, they are much like the Pilot Road 2's, with perhaps a slightly shorter life. (I call them the Pilot Road 2, for those who can't ride!!!
)

Re: Tyre choice ZX6RR
i agree with marty, go the Pilot Road 2... pilot power edge (not that ive used them lately
) and then a hard centre... i commute about 35 kms each day (victoria road) and they still look kinda round and ive probably done 6000kms
having said all that i think a set of M5s would be a good try next time around ... can you get me a good price phil

Re: Tyre choice ZX6RR
Thanks, might have a good look at the Pilot Road 2s - having said that I am obviously not a hard rider as I got my bike about 12000kms ago and the tyres werent brand new then (but should have been replaced a couple of kms ago I think!!
