Re: thicker oil?
When did you last have the throttle bodies balanced? Might help get rid of some of the knocking around.

Re: thicker oil?
There are also several viscosities of 5100. I have used that in all my bikes for the last farkknowshowmany years with no issues and 200K+

Mate, if the bottom end of the 12 suddenly goes quiet....then you have problems!!! It's a kawasaki mate, they sound like a tin box full of nails when new!!!

If it helps Greg, my 9 had 130K plus on it - 98% of those done with Motul 5100 keeping things slippery. That was until Mr Camry driver decided I needed a Z1000

Re: thicker oil?
Hey Guys....
Changed oil filter and used motol 5100 20WD...knocking noise still
don't know if attached video any help...have got three different reason from 3 x mechanics.
1 says gear box
1 says clutch
1 says not sure , might be bottom end main bearing....
might just to bite the bullet and pay for labour cost to find out ..
Bike still running well and knocking noise occurs after bike warms up...continues whilst in idle as well. If i ride for more than say 20 mins,,fans kicks in and noise suddenly gone..
.to me thats not main bearing
i don't know am i wrong?
Any feed back would be appreciated before i make any final decisions.
Cheers Greg

Re: thicker oil?
Greg
got yr msg (like late after a meeting) will call tomorrow
looked at the video but cant quite make it out
there is a noise but its sounds a bit like a mix of a dingding 2 stroke and a main drive chain
is the noise the same on the other (clutch) side?
and does it change whether in or outta gear?
does it sound like its near the water pump..??? ( I has my suspicions)

noise not the same on clutch side..ruled olut the clutch
does not change when in or out of gear
what stumps me is that riding for the first say 10 minutes no noise....then suddenly comes on and is progressingly getting louder...have only been riding to and from work say 10 kms each way over the last 2 weeks.....
I know Gosling1 and Phil are also stumped....
wat r ur thoughts abt water pump????.

Re: thicker oil?
If the sound clarity is accurate, I don't believe it is a cam chain. They tend to be more tinny than that. That sounds like something is not tight somewhere, but without walking around it physically and listening I am not able to diagnose it accurately. But, it could be a knackered clutch basket finger, could be a water pump, could be a loose flywheel weight or pick up. But it could also be bottom end or box related. I think a little pull apart will tell you all you need to know.
Have you listened to it from a variety of positions with a screwdriver???
