Fixing fairing crack

Post by smek »

Got a fairly small crack (3ish cm's) on the front edge of the rhs fairing.
Want to get it fixed before the bike is rideable (still need brake lever and to sort the oil level window) cos i'm worried about it growing.

What do you all suggest?

Plastex seems to get good reviews, but it means grinding out the crack.
Plenty of other bits of the fairing need repainting anyway so i guess this isn't a big deal.
Other option is to take it somewhere. This would be just to get the crack fixed for now. gotta save for the full fairing repairs.
Rob recommended somewhere ... forgotten the name though.

There's probably also other options I don't know about yet.

whats the best bet do ya reckon?

I was hoping to just ride around without the fairing, but forgot about the indicator :(

Get it plastic Welded.. Most plastic Welders are very very good and most of the times you cant even notice where the crack was

Busted, sorry bionic forgot you had chosen that user name. I used to refer as Ronster as the "Bionic PC" cause he not that long went under the knife for some injury & it sorta stuck in my head. So there ya go another nickname i cant use i guess  .
Cheers Brett
PS. Get it welded Mate.

There's way too much talk of fixing small cracks here for comfort but for what it's worth I'd vote for the plastic welders.

A mate once punched a 3cm hole in the lowers of a brand new R1, had a piece plastic welded in and you couldn't pick it. I don't think it was all that expensive either.
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.
