ZX12R Test Ride

Post by MickLC »

I finally got to swing my leg over one of the 2005 12's on Saturday, and took it for a bit of a spin. Very nice, I can see why so many of you guys have bought them. The power comes on lower down than the 10 and it pulls pretty smoothly. Goes around corners OK, but you can definitely feel the size compared to the 10. It was heaps better than the 2002 model I've ridden before in that department.

It had a can on it too, which doesn't look real good with the stock flange still on the end of the link pipe.

At the end of the day though I think I made the right decision for me in getting the 10, I just love it, but the 12 would have been a close run second.

I love it
"... and it pulls pretty smoothly.
for mortals that means

"unsuspecting pilots will receive an overwhelming suprise should they decide to see how far the throttle turns.

Oh yes humble 250 and supersport riders alike be warned. By smooth I mean stunning, by pretty I mean punishing. The 12 delivers a smackdown punch that will knock the wind out of you. Should you regain consciousness be warned the terrain will have changed and you have probably already ridden beyond your destination..."

So how powerful did it feel in the top end compared to the 10?

To be honest, not as powerful, but then I didn't have a lot of time and opportunity to test it.

10:
170kgs with 130kw (approx) and 115nm torque

12:
210kgs with 135kw (approx) and 134nm torque

I reckon the 10 would beat it in most cases, except on the straights and off the line.

Still glad a bought a 12 though!

I've ridden both & they both scare the Crap outta me. I'm a whole lot happier on something you can Punch hard that doesnt want to leave you behind on the bitumen.
So "Narfie" you saying a 929 is a good learners bike or what ?.

I had a run with a 10 not so long back. On the straights(on smooth road) there was nothing in it up to 240 or so. In mid speed(120kph) corners we were riding i pulled away  , but i think it comes down to rider more than anything.
Ride it like you hate it

For my money, I'd take the 10 over the 12... But that's just me...

The effortless ability and comfort of the 12 is completly different to the manic precision of the 10 from what I have seen...

Somebody's always faster and somebodys always slower....

I know a guy with a ZX9R and the ZX10R is just too small - I'm trying to talk him into a ZX12R instead. I think it would suit a big bloke really well, especially after seeing Hammer... hammer.

Mate I'm 6'3" and I'm comfy on the 10. Towards the end of the ride with Ponti I was more comfortable than when I did a similar distance on the 9.
