Engine Bolts Missing?

Post by James »

I took my bike apart this week to give it a thorough check, clean, renew & bonding session. In the picture below, is there supposed to be an engine bolt going through the frame and into the 'collars' on the engine? I looked at the other side and it is the same - no bolt. Its a '89 ZXR750 H1.

check the manual first - it may just be a manufacturing *aid* of some type.......although the engine sure looks like it is supposed to have a 'thru-bolt' of some type ???

be careful, don't just bung in a bolt, that could cause more harm than good......you should check the parts picture as well, it may help identify any missing bits.....

Thanks for the reply's guys. :D I looked in my workshop manual (probably shoulda done that to begin with :? ) and it doesnt mention them as engine bolts in the engine removal section. Perhaps Kawa designed them for a ZX9 conversion!

I had a thought when I pulled the bike apart. In that pic above, you can see a rusty old nut going into the frame rail which bolts that bracket onto the frame. I reckon if I ditched that bracket (which holds on the fairing inner) that I could use the threaded hole in the frame rail to mount a steering damper! Can anyone see any issues with doing that?
