My Baby Is Hurt :(

Well last night was obviously not meant to be an enjoyable on for me. After having a night out at the surfers bike parking and meeting a very nice couple (brandan + sarah on a gixxar thou) who will be hopefully coming on the next ride. At 11:50pm I decided it was time to head home, so on my merry way I went. Heading down Ferny Av. which is a three lane one way street with side streets coming off it. I took off from the lights a bit faster then the cars becase I really don't like being stuck inbetween them and sat at the speed limit of 60km/h. The next thing I know I have a ute pulling out in front of me from a side street into on-comming traffic heading straight at me. This all happened within split seconds as I was only meters from the intersection. So I swerved to the right of the ute, my biggest mistake was locking up the rear (I knew riding dirtbikes all my life was going to bite me in ass somewhere along the line) which resulted in the rear of bike sliding out and me going over the top. With me missing the tray of ute by what felt like inches was probably meters, I slid down the road a couple of meters and soon as I could get my feet I stood up and started chasing the ute to get his number plate. Obviously I was not faster enough as he took off up through oncoming traffic and evtunally cutting through a service station and then into a side street. This is where he made his biggest mistake, when the manager of the servo gets in on Monday morning hes going to get the number plate for me. But this is where the battle really starts.

After the incident I went down to the local cop shop to report it and the officer didn't want to know about it. He said there was nothing that he could do because there was no contact made between the vehicles so technically there was no incident, and they can't book him for anything because they weren't there.

So this morning I call my insurance company to find out exactly whats going to happen. Once I get the numberplate from the servo I have to call the cops to find out who owns the ute and where they live. Before they can give those details they have to call this person to get their permission before giving it to me, something tells me this guy is going to be very reluctant in give any details at all. If I can't get the details then there is nothing the insurance company can do, if I do get the details he said its about a 50/50 chance of getting money out of him.

Damage to the bike:
- Scratched right mirror
- Scratched front brake level and bar end
- Broken right indicator
- Scratches all up the right side of the fairing
- Scratch on clutch case
- Worn down rear brake lever
- Chunk taken out of can
- A hole has almost worn through the pipe that connects to the can
- Scratches on helmet
- Minor damage to jacket, and the draggins are almost perfect

Damage to me: Sore neck, left shoulder, left rib cage, left butt cheek

A note to all that wear boxers as underwear... DON'T the point where I was sliding on my butt which wasn't for very long, resulted in my boxers melting and sticking to my draggins.

I think I was pretty lucky in minor damage that happened, I'm sure it could have been a lot messier had I hit the ute or tray.

I would like that all the people that stopped, there were heaps of them. But thanks must go to Jon who also chased after the ute with me, went into the servo and got all the details, and gave me his business card and told me he would help out where he could.

So now starts the battle of trying to recoupe money to repair my baby :(

Thanks guys, unfortunately it hasn't turned out for the best.

The manager from the servo called me today and said I could come in and watch footage they recorded. You can see the ute drive in the wrong way and he exits down a side street. A couple of minutes late he returns, parks right near the door to the servo, walks in to buy two chocolate bars, at this point he makes a joke to the attendant that he just hit someone and has to go.

Unfortunately the cameras they have are absolute crap which results as the numberplates being completely blurry, all I could make out is it was two letters followed my 4 numbers. I thanked the manager very much for his help, and he did apologise that they couldn't get the number plate.

So I'm rather pissed off!

Well, that means that there's now a witness to a self-admitted hit-and-run.

You have a description of the car, a description of the driver, witnesses... time to have another crack at the cops. If the guy at the front desk continues to object to his nap being interrupted, go to another police station. If they're still not interested, some formal letters of complaint are in order.

sounds like he lives close by that servo so why don't you take care of it the old fashioned way? Holden utes are easy to get into and easier to start. Make sure you have a friend or two in the bushes though, in case you get disturbed. Or farm the job out to some undesirables, plenty around these days :P

Paz can you make ANYTHING out of the number plate? I reckon as Smitty says it's worth having a crack and talk to someone a tad higher up the food chain as far as coppers go, bloke has admitted it on tape, dunno you should need a shitload more but certainly rego would have helped..

a guy i work with used to be a copper. smitty's right, they really really really hate accident reports, but they have to take one by law. and that's bullshit that there has to be a collision. as long as you weren't speeding, TAC has to cover medical costs, and they like to see a police report before doing so. u'll probably have to really force the issue, but be adament you want to make a report.
