Yeah a carb tune should help with that. Good luck with it mate, with a little help from someone that did it before took under 30 mins to synch mine.

damn im such a filthy rotten liar 
still cant seem to give up my affliction for carb tinkering....
so far seem to be running best with all 152 main jets, needles on 2nd clip and floats on about 12.5mm ....
found with either the staggered 152/155 mains or the 155 mains that it would go nice and hard, but after 20 minutes on the freeway it would start to feel a hell of a lot softer, therefore too rich!
still cant quite get the bottom end perfect, low revs with upto about 1/8th throttle it pulls hard, but give it full throttle and it chugs a bit until around 3500rpm, but then all hell breaks loose
does anybody here have a 98-99 ZX9R that can happily accept full throttle in 4th or 5th (or even 6th) gear from 2500rpm??? maybe im just chasing my tail, afterall they went with different carbs in the later models so who knows....
i need a beer, ive adjusted float heights twice today and fiddled with needles twice between float height.... most of the hose clamps and screws holding the carbs and airbox on are showing signs of severe wear and tear

3 and 1/2 on the needles.
16mm float height(very important).
2 turns out on the fuel screws.
adjustable advancer set to 5 degrees.
FLO-Commander Kit set 1 turn in from it's factory settings.
4-2-1 Muzzys exhaust system.
BMC air filters.
this set up works well for my C1 it pulls hard at the lower rev range and good topspeed depending on your gearing,currently 15T front sprocket for normal track work and 17T to do long distance touring to lower cruise revs and higher top speed,the back sprocket stays at 41T chain is 530.
Radiator on Engineice coolant due to tropical heat.
Have not dyno the bike yet but from the change in response and pulling power a lot of differance from stock set-up.

im currently running 150/152 mains (i thought it would be too lean, but going down from 152/155 it hasnt lost any top end and it no longer loses power as the engine heats up) and needles on about the 3rd clip ...midrange and top end are A1
ive tried 16mm float height and it seemed way off... even 13mm seems too lean? so far the best results ive found are with the floats on 12.5mm, but if i crank the throttle open in 4th gear going about 60kph (which is just on 3000rpm) it will kinda bog down, surge a bit then starts pulling around 3500rpm and pulling hard from 4000rpm
thing is tho, if i only use 1/8th throttle from like 2500rpm it pulls pretty cleanly, so the mixtures in the pilot circuit are working well... but give it full WOT and its not happy

i think its definately the +4 degree advancer im using that is making it so hard to tune down low .... but the bike feels so crap without it! haha... i might experiment with higher octane fuel and taking the advancer out again.... or maybe ill just have to get used to cruising on 4000+rpm all the time so im always in the power band
i have used the exact same settings on my bike (158/160 mains, 3.5 clips, 16mm floats) and it ran reallllllly bad... i guess no two bikes are the same
i would love a flow commander, might make tuning less of a headache but cant justify the bucks

Currently running on 95 and 98 unleaded, still have leaded fuel across the causeway in Malaysia, bike runs better with them.My bike's equipped with euro-racing fast throttle which might masks the power a little from the lower revs but it pulls great fom then on ,like i said i have'nt dynoed the kwak yet, i might do it after i fully recover from my injury,we have three dyno shops here and one of them is with the eddy-current dyno from factoryjet,might get better info from the readout.
Try checking for wear on your needlejet,needle valve and tiny tears on the diaphragm rubbers also try installing #40 pilot jet, it cured my low rev problem nicely,hope it helps and good luck to searchin for the perfect set-up

damn! i wish we had a factory pro style eddy current dyno in melbourne... frankly, i dont trust anything else to actually diagnose what might be wrong with my bike... inertia dynos with just an O2 sensor are crap
my diaphragm rubbers are definately good, ive pulled them out 20+ times and i know them like the back of my hand
havent checked the needle jet but dont think it would be worn... the bike only has 30,000km on it... the needles are only about 5000km old, thats when i got the jetkit

its just that its not pulling cleanly, like its fine in the pilot circuit (upto 1/8th throttle) from about 2500rpm, but whack it open and it stumbles and surges till about 3500rpm .... also makes it a bit hard to get off the line, and can be very annoying in day to day traffic
i put 8L of 95 octane in (so 10-11L of 91 octane still in there) just before and she feels a lot better, tho still not right down low
be interesting to see how she goes with a full tank of 95

I run 98 ron in my 02 F1, K&N Filter, Remus Grand prix slip on & no timing Advancement. Recently dynoed with a FactoryPro jet kit fitted by Alex at LAE Racing here in Brisbane. Best results from 155 & 158 mains with needle on the third clip. Nearly 8hp at the wheel in Fifth, with plus two on the rear gearing on a 38 C day.
Wont pull clean from 3500 but will from 4000. I tap dance the gearbox a fair bit in the twisties but rarely go over 10 grand & it seems fairly effective. "Ya gotta luv' th' 9"
