well i thought bugger it and started everything from the beginning again... set everything to what the jetkit instructions said (155/158 mains, 3.5 needles, 16mm floats, 2.5 screws on pilots) and filled it up with 95 octane unleaded and i feel im on the right track now! everything about the bike feels better now, runs so much cleaner & smoother, better delivery

not perfect yet tho so updates will come as i work the bugs out, but it feels good enough for now

But if you are on the right track now SS, then that has to be a good thing...I bet you will be glad when you can just ride it, and forget about jetting........or are you a closet masochist ?

Keep up the good work mate, I gotta say I am glad my daily runner is injected.......but there is no doubt, carbies are fun to play with, and when you get the jetting *just perfect*, it is a great feeling of accomplishment.

im worried ill suddenly get sick of it if i cant find a way to make it a bees dick better to ride each week

i usually get very sick of a bike or car after a few months, but even after around 6 months i still love the 9... but thats cause shes so practical

and as much as i know there are many stock standard bikes out there with well over 20-30rwhp more than mine..... i just dont need to go any faster around town as it stands

dont get to rev any of the gears out much

im sure one could have a similar ammount of trouble tuning with an EFI bike (tho an awful lot less carby removal) but the fact is i just dont trust anybody in melbourne to actually be able to do a better job than myself with carbys.... EFI on the otherhand i would dare say theres plenty that know their stuff... but ive been burnt far too many times by mechanics now

Sounds good SS, I cant wait for the thread on your suspension adjustments, I reckon there's more fun to be found in them then under the petrol tank anyway.

ive made a few suspension adjustments, really makes the bike come together well... set everything back to stock when i got it (which is for a 68kg rider, im 85kg) and found things better with extra preload front and rear, compression set to stock (5 clicks out?) and rebound set to 2 clicks stiffer than stock (3 clicks out) is working pretty well for me, tho perhaps slightly too stiffly sprung for the shitty roads around melbourne... great for corners tho

pity i still havent got my confidence back from my past stacks

cant really be arsed making a thread about it tho

time for another update, decided the top end was fine with 155/158 mains, but it had a bit of a dip in the midrange that would only show up after about 20 minutes of riding... took out a shim from the needles so they are all on 3 clips and the dip is gone but still a little flat in the lower midrange and pretty dead down low until the bike is warm....

so, raised the fuel level by 1mm to 15mm from 16mm (yes, lower is higer) and now shes pretty wild down low!

wheelies way too easy in first from about 4k now, and its comming up in 2nd gear now too

its soooo strong up around 7-9k, can really feel the G's in your chest and have to hang on to the bars damn tight

still a slight hiccup down low that goes away after a little while, so maybe i need to add another 0.5mm of fuel to the floats..

not sure if ive lost a little top end or if ive just gained so much midrange that the top feels flatter... but the extra fuel in the floats might be making it richer up top, apparently you need to go down a size on mains for every 1.5mm you increase the fuel level by, so might try all 155s or 155/152's

need to do more analysing still

went to all 155 mains today - weeeeee!

gonna need a little more fuel in the bowls, will raise that about a half 'mil in the days to come

i have worn out several sets of floatbowl screws, and the screws on the hose clamps that hold the carbs to the engine ... found lots of similar screws in the shed but they are running out rapidly

I had factory jet kit fitted today and dyno to suit, Question he never gave me any bits back should i have asked ??. What would a shop normally charge for fitting jet kit and tuning ??. charged me $240.00 for the kit and $350 to fit and tune

you guys got any favourite sites for tuning carbies? i have an 00 zx6r, working on it currently. The site linked to a couple of times in the earlier pages isnt working, so wondering if u guys know where its moved to or have an alternative.

I dont fully understand the carbs, how they work etc. I'd appreciate a decent link with detailed tuning instructions n stuff.

Thinking about buying a carbtune2, im using stock carbies, stock jets and needles, full yoshi, BMC race filter, and i just want to get it running good.

Currently running like a dog (i took the carbs apart cos they were full of shit, one cylinder was being a bastard and a mechanic i saw told me to clean the jets out). I took the carbs apart, cleaned them all out, tried to put it all back as i found it, but i musta screwed up somewhere cos the rev's hang high and drop slowly after revving, say i revved to 6, would drop to 3-4 and hang there till it got bored then go back to idle. As the bikes currently unregistered i cant (legally) fang it on the streets to see if its made a vast improvement to power.

Would u guys recommend i get this setup working as best as it can, or get a kit and rotor and go from there? Im tempted to stick with what i have and just get it running good, booked in for its written off vehicle inspection on the 10th of jan, so maybe once its on the road i'll kit n advance it. Before then i wont be able to keep taking it out for rides, too many old folks on the street would call the cops on me for riding an unreg vehicle at over the 50kph limit.

Advice/links appreciated

if you look in their technical help index theres a lot of further info on pilot circuits and float height which is quite useful.

sounds like you wound the mixture screws in and didnt wind them back out, thats what a lean mix in the pilot circuit will do. they should be about 2.5 turns out from fully seated (not done up hard, just from where it wont turn in any more)

not so sure if its really worth the money and effort to put a jetkit and advancer on a 00 6R, especially if the exhaust is stock.

is it your first 600? probably best to just learn to ride the wheels off the thing, and try not to crash as much as i do
