Matho's editorial latest AMCN.

Post by Strika »

I read today In AMCN Mathos editorial regarding the poor struggling dealers in the current market and I posted a reply to this topic on another forum I'm on. Here ti's!

"I read that load of crap that Metho wrote. I have run car and bike dealerships, and can say factually that if you are unable to make money with a metropolitan mainstream franchised motorcycle dealership, then you are doing it all wrong!

The ones who are usually struggling to afford a demo fleet, are usually the ones who are also not selling due to poor retail practices. My best suggestion for them is to look at those who are successful and adopt an approach that mirrors that. And you do not need to be a multi outlet group to make money either.

A lot of these dealers do not deserve to have a franshise, with very poor adherence to the dealer agreement, and a load of flexibility usually shown by the manufacturer to allow them to retain their franchise.

Things are changing thankfully, with obvious improvements in the dealer networks of most manufacturers of late. However there are still the remaining stalwarts of the old gaurd who still think the general public owe them a living for owning a motorcycle shop!"

Rant endeth here!

Wow - I thought Boris' column would've got more of a response from dealerships than Matho's editorial.

Why dont you send it to Matho rather than a forum?

The motorcycle industry on the whole is very unprofessional.

The only thing that has kept me out of having my own shop is finance. Specifically I am not going to pay someone, especially with borrowed money, their inflated value of the business that they don't seem able to run propery. It's Midas syndrome - they touched it so it must be worth a fortune...

To be honest, I bought my bike not because I liked it SOOO much better than any other bike - they are basically all bloody good. No, I bought it because the dealer was better than the others.

Some lessons are going to be hard learnt, methinks.

Matho is very obviously regurgitating something he has been fed by an owner or manager. If I open a can of worms with a letter or email, He will only spend more time trying to justify it and bring out those dealers willing to support that attitude. Personally Matho can say what he likes. I am not a Member of AMCN like I am in here, and here is where I talk shit about bikes and bike related stuff with other likeminded people. So hence posted it here. :)
