Sprocket Movement/Loose Chain etc ..

Ok .. So just did an oil change and took the 21 y/o up the street to lube her up ... without helmet (yeah yeah) .. but due to lack of helmet, noticed some noise comin from chain/sprocket area ..fairly rattly really.

I only lubed up the chain a coupla days ago so its not the dry chain noise ..

Now, have been pretty constantly adjusting the chain after every two or three rides due to it slacking off .... Also, noticed today that the rear sprocket has a little side to side movement that I dont thnik has been there before ... approx 3mm ... is this normal?

I know there should be a little for-aft movement with the chain-dampener thingy, but not side to side ..

Would this be that I put something in incorrectly last time I took the back wheel off? or perhaps just wear n tear ..

Sounds like the cush rubbers have worn matey.......
You can either spend a few $$s on new ones OR pack 'em out with a bit of old inner tube

You need to check the bearing that is inside the the rear sprocket housing, it may be cactus!

3mm sideways movement sez its stuffed
and this may or may not have farked the cush too...

Thanks to Rossi, packin the cush rubbers (is that what they are called???) with some old bicycle tyre did the trick and firmed that up heaps .. (never actually thought of doin that before ...)

The bearings did have a little play and probably what is happening ... Will have to order some newies.

I reversed one of the spacers on the axle, which I dont think would make that much diff given the hight was the same either way, but did have a different internal profile ..

In any case, seems to have improved it on a short run up the road .. will see tomorrow for sure.
