beware of pre 2000 model ZX9R with gearbox problems, post 2000 you should be right.

here is an example, bit high in k's but 9R's are generally bulletproof

http://www.bikesales.com.au/bike/search ... ex=37&x=14

below are my two personal fav's

http://www.bikesales.com.au/bike/search ... ex=37&x=12

http://www.bikesales.com.au/bike/search ... ex=37&x=12

I have also posted this a few times but here is the best review I think of 9R's

http://bikepoint.ninemsn.com.au/portal/ ... fault.aspx

but for the money your spending why not consider a brand new Z750, they are going for $9850 ride away here in brissy.

Also I hold no responsibility what turns up in those links as bikesales are always changing them.

My old 636 was an excellent bike to ride and my next one will probably be a newer model 636 anyway...

I will test ride everything in Sydney before I make a final call but each bike will need a slightly different riding style...

Just get one that you think will suit you best...

I'm with Dave, just get what is comfortable, best condition/price when you're ready to buy.
Maybe not a 6 if you might do some long trips with a pillion and luggage; but don't be scared of a 9, you'll have addapted to the throttle after a week or so like Beryl said.
Any bike will hurt you if you don't respect it.

Now please excuse me while I go cry over my bike sitting in stands in the garage .

Another engine gone but at least the purple and pink are still there, oh yeah.

If I ever got to the point my car, bike, or some other machine felt lacking and I was bored with it I would go and drive my ex-missues old bluebird for a few days (which couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding). Then get back on/in your machine and it is like ya reborn again and so much power, oh what a feeling!
Thats my good tip for the week, and can save ya money

quote from the zx9 article posted earlier

"What do you think Ken? "We had a mechanic here who had a C model, and when he sold it with 118,000 kms on it and it was like new. What are they like to work on? "

no mention of gearbox trouble dontknow.gif ...........i've only heard of a few people having gearbox problems in all the people i've known/know that have c models. as long as it hasnt been wacked thru the gears on the back wheel i doubt you'll have trouble.

and a good tip - try and by the bike as stock as you can, i'm always weary of advancers etc etc if you know what i mean

and finally, the zx9r is the best bike to do EVERYTHING, and they only go as fast as YOU make them

Good tip thinking ahead Vince, oh & nice siggie by the way.
After meeting you mate i can really see you on a 7r. As the guys said all three choices will serve you well & I normally recommend the 02 636 as the best step up from the 250's but i also think a lot of others have this thought & it has kept their resale price.
But quite a few of the bigger guys seem quite happy on the 7r & I recon that would go for ya.

some good points....and i was 21 and 5'9 and abt 68kg when i had the zx6r, and it was a wikid bike...even 2 up it went plenty hard enuf (mrs was only short, and abt 45kg )..mind u if i was a bigger guy i mighta liked the 9 more (was too heavy for me)...
the 7r isnt as comfy on long rides (i didnt ride it that far & it felt like id done plenty of push ups..my arms were numb)...
so wot kinda riding u gunna b doin??
also mate, consider insurance.,..as i was 21 it was costing me $3800 a yr for the 600...the 900 they wouldnt touch me on (21yo, rating 1/60% NCB) due to the size/age...get sum quotes on sum insurance too....
ring a few places & ask for say the same yr bike on 2 diff sizes..that MAY influence u until ur 25...lol...
plus a 6 will do more than ur capable of doin for at least a yr or 2 (unless ur a bloody quick learner, or lunatic)...
how big are u?? weight & height i mean..not ball size...

I'm 6 foot 3 and about 85kg plus gear.
not interested in really long rides, i got a car for that, but my height does allow me to sit up on my 250 more than most people, so i assume it'll be the same situation with the 7.
I'm a pretty quick learner, so i reckon i might get the hang of the power pretty quick.
i want it for fun not commuting so i don't care if i'm buggered when i get off it, that just means i've had an awesome day.

beryl wrote:Depends what you want to do with them and how you want to ride them, if you do mostly 200kmto 350 km rides a six is good especialy in the twisties but its power is mostly between 9 and 13000 rpm its a animal at these revs but it is designed for the track, lighter riders may disagree with this comment but if your 100kg it needs a little more tourqe.

A nine is more grunty down low which is handy it probably carries a gearsack and pillion better and as i said you dont have to rev the daylights out of it to go at a more than leisurly pace and apparently they do tour well.

Havent tested the 7r yet but i havnt seen a slow one either you might haveto try them all yourself but definitley dont be scared of the 9r it only takes a few weeks to adjust to the throttle and you will be away.
Totally agree with the above, only addition is if you wanna go bush, find a good 11

cheers

If your keen on a 7r, i've got one thats well run in and going fairly cheap.

Piss poor timing mate,
gimme till the end of the year n i should have the cash for ya.
and then i'd still be breaking my restrictions for 6months.

just thinkin ahead atm but it looks like th 7 might be the way to go.

n ron, i'm happy to go bush, but i think i'd need ur bike for that, experience goes a long way i hear, and it looks so farkin great after a bit of a rebuild.
