Re: Oil-leak
do not check the oil whilst on the stand as It is not level therefore not acurate.
As I said before you should not keep filling until you cover the entire site glass as this would cause issues as wattie suggested, If you maintain heat in the engine on a hot summers day e.g. today the oil will expand with heat+ occupy more space and obviously need somewhere else to go which will be the weakest link eg gaskets

I thought as such with the level but as stated above this was done by a mechanic. So didn't give it a second thought!...Blurr wrote:do not check the oil whilst on the stand as It is not level therefore not acurate.

Re: Oil-leak
2/3rds seems a bit high on the side stand,,, most bikes i have looked at the site glass on the stand and theres barely any oil visable.
id try getting your oil below the top of the site glass when upright first and see what happens before jumping to conclusions.
even though a mechanic did it, still dont mean its right,,,,
where does your airbox drain to?, cause if your oil levels to high or you have been at high revs for long periods, oil can excape your crankcase into you airbox and leak from there,,, just a thought.
good luck

DISCO wrote:When i got the bike back (after the last track day) the level was high.I noticed upright the sight glass was full (no gap) but on the stand about 3/4.It was about a 300k run I went on when i noticed when i got back.Could it really just be too much oil? Will dumping some fix this or will it need another gasket?
Cheers Dave....
the rocker cover gasket is re-usable. it will be fine, its a big chunky rubber thing.
i'd drop the oil to the normal level, then check for leaks. of its still leaking, then maybe take it back to the mechanic, tell them they over filled it. and its leaking.

Re: Oil-leak
Is there not an oil breather hose that will expel oil before the gasget goes kaput too ?? generally comes out of or near rocker cover somewhere
Maybe check hoses and makes sure none of them is blowing oil..

if it is too full it has to go somewhere no matter how old the bikerobracer wrote:Very highly unlikely for a newish bike RussDISCO wrote:Blurr wrote:occupy more space and obviously need somewhere else to go which will be the weakest link eg gasketsnew gaskets do not blow (not enough pressure)

Re: Oil-leak
But wattie has a point that his weeped so ther is some merrit to the leaking gasket suggestion, & yes the crankcase breather should go into the airbox Hoffy.
